چکیده

This work reports on a surprising and abnormal increase of the Raman intensity when the probing area is moved to the edge of a mechanically cleaved Si wafer. Our detailed surface structure study based on atomic force microscope and scanning electron microscope rules out any effect from surface morphology. Systematic study of the Raman system focusing effect with a range of μm finds no focusing effect involved in our observed phenomenon. The linewidth, wavenumber, and intensity of the 521 cm 1 peak are obtained and evaluated quantitatively when the testing region is moved from the center to the cleaved edge. When the grain size of crystalline silicon varies from 20 to 10nm, the Raman intensity of the 521 cm 1 peak is increasing abnormally, by about 100%. Meanwhile, both the linewidth and wavenumber change by about 2 cm 1 and 4 cm , respectively. If instrument and surface factors are well controlled/defined, the change of Raman intensity could provide a sensitive and complementary method for grain size characterization in addition to the Raman wavenumber and linewidth methods. Toward a facile synthesis of spherical sub-micron mesoporous silica: Effect of surfactant concentration

In this paper, a facile method for preparing sub-micron spherical mesoporous silica by the sol-gel process and cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as a soft template was reported. Moreover, the effect of surfactant concentration on the specific surface area and the total pore volume was investigated. The specific surface area, pore characteristic, morphology, chemical comp...

Imaging highly confined modes in sub-micron scale silicon waveguides using Transmission-based Near-field Scanning Optical Microscopy.

We demonstrate a new technique for high resolution imaging of near field profiles in highly confining photonic structures. This technique, Transmission-based Near-field Scanning Optical Microscopy (TraNSOM), measures changes in transmission through a waveguide resulting from near field perturbation by a scanning metallic probe. Using this technique we compare different mode polarizations and me...

Improved drain current characteristics of tunnel field effect transistor with heterodielectric stacked structure

In this paper, we proposed a 2-D analytical model for electrical characteristics such as surface potential, electric field and drain current of Silicon-on-Insulator Tunnel Field Effect Transistor (SOI TFETs) with a SiO2/High-k stacked gate-oxide structure. By using superposition principle with suitable boundary conditions, the Poisson’s equation has been solved to model the channel r...
